Leo in the Zodiac

Leo is the fifth sign of the zodiac. As a fire sign Leo, they are enthusiastic, excitable and active. As the second fixed sign of the zodiac, Leo methodically works towards their goals. They have an infectious exuberance that people are drawn to. They possess strong leadership qualities, set trends and influence others.

Leo is noticed by others just by the way they carry themselves in their day-to-day life.  Leo can either be bold and daring or shy and reserved. They either love the spotlight, or they shy away from it. It all comes down to confidence and encouragement. Leo depends upon encouragement and support from their partner, family, friends and associates.

The Sun

Leo is ruled by the Sun, the center of our solar system.  The Sun symbolizes the energy, fuel and vital life force that powers all the other planets. The sign of Leo wants to see and be seen, just like its ruler, the Sun.  This is why Leo is associated with visibility, attention, courage, generosity and creative impulses.  Leos are often perceived as being self-centered, the sun does sit at the center of the sky. Leos need to pause, reflect and take time to help others and remember that the world does not revolve around them.

Leo has a constant view of the self and the individual. They are very concerned about their needs being met by everyone around them. Their confidence is attached to their need for recognition. They do not have a problem speaking up for others as they are always concerned about the self…themselves or others. If a Leo adorns you with their attention or gifts, it is best to acknowledge this and say Thank You! A Leo just wants to be appreciated which is why they go to all the trouble and effort in the first place.

Ruled by their Heart

Leo rules the heart, and a great gift of this sign is being able to light up a room…to shine on everyone in it. There is an element of worship in everything a Leo does. Leo is able to find the elements of people that are notable and worth holding in high esteem, to shine a light on them and make them feel special and unique.

Leo is the original host, The Master of Ceremonies, the Team Captain, The Leader or the Chairman of the Board. Leo doesn’t want to be on the committee, they want to be in charge of the committee. They love to pull a crowd together.  This can be anything from planning a party or gathering, to organizing a work function or a community meeting.  For them it is all about being involved, noticed, acknowledged and praised for their tireless efforts to organize their own audience.

Leo loves anything that glitters and shines.  If it stands out, Leo is there to take notice and is interested. Satisfaction can be achieved by collecting sparkling objects, reading about the lives of famous people or just being up on the latest Hollywood news. A Leo may sometimes adorn themselves with more rings than fingers, more necklaces and bracelets and flashy clothes than other signs.

Love

A Leo in love will go to the ends of the earth for their partner and soul mate. Their pride is in their love and heart. Like a Lion protecting their “pride” a Leo will go to great lengths to protect and defend their homes and families. They like the best of everything and prefer luxury every opportunity that they can get it.  If a Leo wants something …they will dream and aspire to get it, they will work themselves to the bone to achieve it, acquire it or to experience it. If it involves the love of their life, they are more driven to make it happen. This is why they can make the world their oyster. Leo must learn to ask others how they feel, to allow others to speak, to engage with others and not dominate the conversation with their own concerns. The oyster can be illusive until they learn that it is by acknowledging others, that they themselves will receive acknowledgement, because relating is a two-way street.

Glyph

The glyph for Leo resembles the tail of the lion or a combination of the tail and mane.  Lions are the kings of the jungle, known for their fierce courage and natural regality.  It’s all about attention, the giving and receiving of light and energy.  In esoteric astrology, the symbol represents “kundalini or life force,” a serpent power uncoiling from its place of slumber at the base of the spine.

House Position

Leo represents the fifth house of the zodiac that’s focus is romance, creativity and children, fun, pregnancies, sex and flirting, love and affairs, it is the polar opposite of Aquarius which covers the eleventh house of friends, social circles, groups, joint activities and spiritual aspirations.

Look to where Leo is in your chart. Notice the planets or aspects within the house.  This is where you can expect your Leo traits to be found.  Leo energy is amazing for so many things…find where yours is and work with it.
