The Story Behind Your Moon

The moon represents your innermost emotional needs and rules the most instinctive parts of you.  It is changeable and has more needs at certain times than others.  It is constantly ebbing, flowing and changing. The moon is everything feminine, passive and conservative.  It symbolizes our protective instincts, moods and enthusiasm.  The moon indicates introversion, our intuition and receptivity.  It shows our dependency, adaptability, reflection, reaction.  It is where we are creative with art, poetry, writing and dreams.

The Moon rules water, the tides and ocean.  Think about this ebb and flow like the ocean’s tides coming in and receding.  Included is fertility, menstruation and conception.  It symbolizes the mother, the soul, the unconscious and our psyche.  In horoscopes of a man, the moon indicates the mother or mother figure.  The nature of the Moon is to be reflective and reproductive.  It imitates the forms created by the Sun.

The Moon moves quickly completing its orbit around the Earth in less than a month.  Therefore, its influence in the chart is very important and always changing.  It represents your support system, your home, roots, foundation, emotions, instincts, moods, feelings, habits, our past, past lives and memories.  The Moon represents the female principle, the mother, wife, grandmother and other female influences.  It represents nurturing, fertility, pregnancy and receptivity.  The placement of the Moon in your chart indicates where you are subject to emotional fluctuations and reflect energy outward.

The Moon rules the sign of Cancer and the 4th house.

Moon Positive characteristics include: imagination, memory, sensitivity, intuition, dreams, empathy and our adaptability.

Negative qualities include; inconsistent, dreamy, absent, hypersensitivity, over cautious.

Professions which relate to the Moon include nurturing/caring/water/liquid:  wine, beer, liquor, mineral water, milk, laundry, sailors, imagination…poets, writers, painters.  All caretaking: nurse, kindergarten or preschool teacher, midwife, and professions that do not produce (Sun) but focus on support, repair and maintenance.

The Moon is the natural satellite of our Earth.  It takes the Moon one month to make one revolution around. It does not have its own lights source and is illuminated by the Sun. The Moon represents our unconscious instinctive responses, our habits, emotions, behavioral patterns and moods.  It tells our desires in life of “what and how” we deeply feel.  The position of the moon in your chart by sign and house will indicate your type of emotional responses.

Key words for the Moon include:  Instinct, home, emotions, security, fertility and moodiness.

The Moon is reflective.  It reflects the subconscious, emotional and fluctuating side of our personality.  It is considered a personal planet that reflects our basic psychological functions within our personality.  It is personal in that it mostly deals with internal or private matters.  It is self-experiencing and accepting of its qualities.  It is considered the holding center of the personality, emotional impressions that have settled deeply in the personality.  It is reflecting the darker, unconscious side of the personality, qualities that can sometimes be renounced by the conscious, optimistic side.  Its basic expression is “automatic”.  The Moon shows us our emotional drives which are difficult to explain.  It is the emphatic side of the personality, the maternal and protective instincts.  It reflects the most fundamental needs of our personality.  It is reflective of a person’s needs and desires.

The location of the Moon in the houses “reflects” what is our “Home Base”.  Where we come from.  It is where the personality begins to form and has emotional significance for the person/child. It represents our house of home, where we go to refuel, rest and recharge our emotional side when needed.  When we are balanced, we can leave this space and focus on the house of the Sun. It is reflective of areas where we feel emotionally compelled to dive deep.  It shows where we go and flavors all that we do. Now let’s go through each sign:

Aries Moon

The first sign of the zodiac, Aries, and is known for their impulsive, headfirst and fiery disposition.
