Your Sixth House: The House of Health, Wellness, and Daily Routines
The sixth house in astrology governs the realm of work, mental, physical and spiritual health, and service to others. It is also concerned with nutrition, exercise, routines and coworkers. We can also include pets and service workers.
Ruler: Virgo and Mercury
Virgo and its planetary ruler Mercury are the natural dignitaries of the sixth house. The sixth house encompasses our personal vocational calling and our mundane tasks and routines that we perform on a daily basis
Health and Well-being
We look to this house to see how service oriented we are, and how we tend to be of help or of service to others. It is here that we can ascertain matters regarding our health and well-being. Ailments and various health conditions are typically interpreted through this house.
For example, a person with Saturn in this house will more than likely be health conscious and prone to exercise moderation in their diet along with incorporating a healthy diet and physical activity to keep themselves at their personal best.
Coworkers
The sixth house is where we look to view issues or areas that are concerned with coworkers and how we relate to them. This house can indicate whether we tend to experience a contentious work environment or a more harmonious one.
Work Traits
The sixth house is where you look at work traits. It also describes your thoughts on how you approach work- and work-related tasks in general. Are you a perfectionist and detail oriented…more of a Virgo trait, or fast and loose? Do you like to improvise or are you more likely to plan things out in an organized, methodical manner.
Daily Tasks
This house is associated with our everyday routines. We can look to the planetary placements and aspects occurring to give us a clue as to how well you handle specific responsibilities. For example: having your Saturn in the sixth house will suggest a very diligent and dutiful worker. You would be the type of person that would be inclined to handle your responsibilities with earnestness and dedication. You would feel remiss if you skipped out on your responsibilities or didn’t perform them to the best of your ability.
General Health
Now, the sixth house also pertains to health and how well we take care of ourselves and others. An afflicted Saturn or Neptune in this house can indicate neurotic and paranoid ideations about contracting illnesses or catching certain diseases. Some people may develop obsessive compulsive rituals to help self soothe themselves. They may do this to make themselves feel as though they are doing something to keep their risk down, and any dangers that may bestow them at bay.
Service To Others
It is in the sixth house that the instinct for nurturing and taking care of others in need of assistance is found. Afflicted planets in this house may indicate a diminished quality, ability or willingness to take on the burden of service to others. Conversely this may indicate a tendency for them to impose their help onto others that is overbearing and possibly interfering with others ability to be self-reliant and independent.
For example, Jupiter positioned in this house can indicate someone who is a happy and cheerful worker…but also suggest that someone may be relatively lackadaisical, if not lazy, about getting things done.
Responsibility and Duty
The sixth house is where we take a good look at what our priorities are and pull back from the self-indulgent energy of the fifth house. Here is where responsibility and duty is highlighted, as well as, considerations surrounding cause and effect. We also look to see the consequences of our behaviors and actions. What we eat, what we say, what we do, all have repercussions… both positive and negative. The sixth house is more mindful of the ramifications and outcomes resulting from our personal behaviors and choices.
Day To Day Tasks
The sixth house can signify something about the wisdom and prudence of our decisions, actions and judgments. Furthermore, the sixth house is concerned with the down to earth and practical needs of our everyday living….in contrast to the idealistic pursuits of its opposite…the 12 house. The sixth house defines how we structure our lives and perform our daily tasks that are essential to our physical existence.
Boundaries and Limitations
The sixth house pertains to our boundaries and limitations, but also our sense of purpose and Life’s Mission. We are all working towards something that we find meaningful and rewarding. Those who do not feel a sense of purpose and drive are bound to fall into a state of sadness. The aspects of our personal day-to-day lives that are routine and habitual are the domain of the sixth house.
It pertains to our sense of direction and productive action. It can also entail the processes, procedures and methods involved with making a set of objectives achievable.
For example, an afflicted sixth house can mean that an individual struggles to find ways to fulfill their obligations, duties and responsibilities. Working out sustainable routines and procedures for carrying out tasks can pose an issue when they’re depended upon to perform on a regular and consistent basis.
On the positive side, people who have a prominent six house, place a lot of importance on doing work that is meaningful and fulfilling to them. They are driven to serve others and be an asset to whatever organization or collective they are member of. Furthermore, they are excellent team players who look to help others when needed.
And…
It is in the sixth house that we find ethics and principles that govern how business is conducted. It addresses the daily dealings of life. These simple matters keep us engaged to do the important work of our choosing.
